Backing up 1TB again for no reason.
I have contacted support about this but they have been very slow to respond and not properly understood the problem.
I was prompted to install the latest update to Acronis True Image 2020 last week. For no apparent reason it is re-backing up 1 TB of data, data that has already been backed up months ago.
I have added 13.3GB of data in the last week. Even allowing for something I've forgotten, there is no way I have added 1TB to be backed up. I have not renamed a folder or a drive.
I'm worried as to why it is doing this, if it's a bug then it makes be doubt the reliability of the backup. If it is my mistake I'd hope support could review any logs and help resolve it.
Has anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks Steve.
This is a backup to Acronis Cloud. I've been backing up like this for roughly a year without issue.
The only changes made were:
Running the Acronis True Image 2020 update as prompted last week.
Copying a project (13.3GB) to the drive that gets backed up.
I have not added or removed a drive or changed a drive or folder name. I really can't think what would have prompted the backup software to think it needs to re backup 1TB.

Mark,
I believe this to be expected behavior due to the fact that the new TI 2020 release uses a new file format known around here as .tibx for all cloud based backups and new task full disk backups. I suspect that your addition of this project to an existing backup triggered a full rewrite of all data to the new format.

It seems crazy that I'd need to upload the data again. The files in the data centre are the same as on my machine, why the need to upload all that data? And if that's the case why only 1TB and not the full 1.7TB backup?

Mark, please check the Activity page for your cloud backup task to see if this actually says that it has done a Full backup instead of continuing the existing task with new incremental data?
Note: you may need to wait until the upload has completed before the Activity page will show you the type.
I saw some issues with one of my cloud backup tasks where it showed as doing a Full backup but looking at the size of data it actually uploaded showed a different story!
This particular cloud backup was first configured back in August and as the above shows, has done several so-called Full backups but not actually uploaded the full amount of data!
There have been some Acronis server issues since late October which may be pertinent here - these mainly impacted on the Dashboard servers and caused task settings to be reset but seem to also have had some strange side-effects. The server issue(s) should now be all resolved but it may take a little time for all the wrinkles to sort themselves out!

Thanks Steve, I appreciate you taking the time to help.
I started using Acronis True Image to back up to the Acronis Cloud back in April. It took a few weeks to backup my work drive which back then had around 1.5TB of data on it. Since then I've added a number of new projects (lots of video and image files) and they have been backed up incrementally without issue. Before the latest update backup sizes would make sense, copy a 5GB project to my drive, 5GB gets backed up.
I'm very reluctant to have to re upload 1TB, it will take days, will it be seen as duplicate files and use up my available space, will it corrupt the data that is already there so I am without that backup until it is complete? The data in the Acronis Cloud is meant to be my backup, it seems insane that I would need to replace it.
Perhaps more importantly I have lost faith in the service. Support take days to get back to me after each email, they fail to understand the issue and tell me how to calculate my upload speed. No one seems able to tell me what the issue is or what the effects will be.

Mark, are you backing up to any other locations apart from the Acronis Cloud? If not, then I would strongly encourage you to do so, especially if your data is important to you.
See the web article: The Ultimate Guide to Computer Backup which Acronis wrote some time ago and which describes the best practise approach to making backups using a 3-2-1 methodology.
With regards to this specific cloud issue, then try sending a message to Renata Gubaydullina | Product manager, Acronis True Image to see if she can help in any way to get your support case moving and providing some answers to your concerns about your cloud storage etc.

Thanks for those details Steve.
Yes, I back up to multiple locations, not just the cloud.
