Backing up Mac to Windows Server Essentials

Thread needs solution

I'm a long-time user of ATI on my PCs. Now, I'd like to try it on my iMac, but I have two questions.

I don't have exactly have a NAS. Rather, I have a Windows Server 2016 Essentials machine. In the product specifications, ATI 2020 for MAC is said to be compatible with NTFS.

  1. Does that mean that I could install it on a current macOS machine and back the Mac up to a Windows Server on the same LAN — i.e., would True Image automatically recognize the Windows Server as a potential destination?
  2. If so, could I do a bare-metal restore of the Mac using True-Image's Bootable Rescue Media?

On MAC specific issues you will be more likely to get knowledgably responses on the ATI MAC forum.

As I understand it, the file system used by the remote backup location should not be an issue, particularly when it is a common one such as NTFS. Things like reconciliation of file permissions would be handled by the file server. For example I have no issues backing up to my Synology NAS which uses a Linux file system of some sort.

In theory, yeah it should be possible. You would just need to be able to authenticate to the share from the Mac to make the backup and again from the rescue media.

I'd grab the trial version for your Mac and test it out though.

For what's it worth, I take backups with the imaging tool in the Mac installer usbs, store them on a Windows server by copying them from USB to the server share and have been able to copy them back to USB and restore them. At the bare minimum that would be possible, but I see no reason why you couldn't use the share directly for backups and restore with Acronis.
