backup failed, cannot edit connection settings
One of my backup starts by running a bat file to erase the last (and only) FULL backup to get the space back for the new FULL backup. Last night that backup failed for whatever reason, there was no backup at the location. One of the options I see at the error message is "edit connection settings." I click that and a screen comes up to test the connection settings with the settings already entered. I click Test and the test completes successfully. But I then still cannot get.into settings, it gives me options Retry/Ignore. I click Retry it tells me "failed to open backup \\diskstation\....................... (as I mentioned earlier, there is no backup at the location), Check your network connections. If you moved or renamed it, return it to the same location or restore the initial file name and click Retry. If you deleted it, click Ignore to create a new backup version." If I again hit Retry it brings me back to the same screen. If I click Cancel and then click Ignore it brings me back to the Backups menu screen where I first started. If I click Options on this menu, it starts the whole process over. How can I get to the settings to see if anything is wrong in this case?

If you manually delete a file outside of the TI application you cause corruption in the database that TI keeps for backups and that results in the error messages you see.
Either do not delete the existing backup prior to running the task or delete the task and create a new one keeping in mind that there must be space available at the destination location that will hold a full version followed by any inc. or diff. files followed by the next full before the cleanup rules of the task remove anything from the destination location.

Thanks, so I think I understand what happened. I need to erase the old backup file to gain space for the new backup. The backup was deleted via a pre-command custom bat.file. If the backup then runs with no issues, everything is okay. If the backup then runs with issues and does not complete, I have the situation I'm in; no old backup file, no new backup file and because the database is corrupt, I cannot do anything with any of the backup settings. In my case, it is necessary for the old backup to be removed from the destination in order to gain space needed for the new backup, any way around this?

Bruce, you basically need to have enough space for two full backups. Then you could run the Single Version Scheme and not delete the old file outside of ATI. Of course it won't delete the older one until the newer one is completed. The idea is not to leave you high and dry without a backup.

I almost had a disaster a couple of years ago and I learned from that. I have 3 other backups of this data in separate locations just in case. So one missing/corrupt backup would not be too harmful. At least now I understand what the cause was. Two 4tb ubs external drives would solve this issue but I do not have $150-$200 right now.
