Backup Fails Near end of Process
I have tried backing up my Windows 10 Pro laptop using Acronis True Image 2020 without success. The backup proceeds normally until it fails at about 2 minutes remaining. Then gives message: The latest backup has been stopped. It will be restarted at [time]. A backup error"
This repeats over and over, each time proceeding through backup until error, until I manually stop the process. I have tried chkdsk /f and have reinstalled Windows keeping files but still have the problem. I have also tried backing up with Macrium Reflect and with AOMEI Backupper but both of them also error out when near completion.
The error message in AOMEI is: "Information Code: 33. Failed to read sectors. It may be because the backup source has a bad sector or the backup source is missing." If chkdsk /f didn't find and correct a bad sector I just don't understand.
Otherwise the PC operates normally as far as I can see but I have no way to back up and have important files I don't want to lose.

John, welcome to these public User Forums.
Given that you see the same issue with multiple different backup applications (Acronis, Macrium, AOMEI) then you definitely have a disk issue on the source drive you are attempting to backup.
As Jose mentions above, you can try to identify more information about the disk issue by creating an Acronis disk report but that will only confirm the suspicion not resolve it.
In the interim, I would recommend making a Files & Folders backup of all of your important user data, documents, pictures, videos, music etc as a precaution against the drive failing fully.
I would recommend identifying what disk drive make is installed in your laptop then using the diagnostic tools provided by that manufacturer to check the whole drive for errors.
Dedicated diagnostic utilities from the disk manufacturers take the longest time to complete the checks, but provide the most accurate methods of checking whether the disk is good or needs replacement:
- Western Digital drives: Western Digital Dashboard
- Seagate disks: SeaTools for Windows
- HGST disks: HGST Windows Drive Fitness Test (WinDFT)
- Intel SSDs: Intel Memory and Storage Tool (GUI)
- Samsung drives: Samsung Magician
- ADATA drives: ADATA SSD ToolBox
- Kingston SSDs: Kingston SSD Toolbox, Kingston SSD Manager
- Transcend SSDs: Transcend SSD Scope
- Silicon Power disks: SP ToolBox
- Toshiba disks: Toshiba PC Diagnostic Tool Utility
- Crucial disks: Crucial Storage Executive
- SanDisk disks: SanDisk SSD Dashboard tool / SanDisk SSD Dashboard user guide

Thank you, Jose. I solved the problem by reinstalling Windows without retaining files. Now True Image completes fine.
