Backup Scheme Issues

Tutorial

Hello,

I recently changed from WD Discovery to ATI.

With WD Discovery, all my backed up files were located on my external hard drive and organized the same way as on my computer. Each day the backup would run and update only the files that were edited as well as added any new files from my computer.

It seems this is not the case with ATI?

Full backup backs up everything in full.
Incremental sounds like the one I'm looking for. However, it also does a full backup. I'm not sure why this is the case.
Differential backs up the files that have changed or new files except organizes them separately than how it is on my computer. It will create a whole new folder for only the changed/new files for that day.

I'm looking for a backup scheme that's the same as WD Discovery. All files and folders are organized the same as on my computer. When a file is updated or a file is added on my computer, it simply updates the files in the external hard drive to match. Is this possible with ATI?

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

T SB, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but I have no knowledge of WD Discovery or how it works in terms of organising backup data.

Acronis Backup schemes will always create an initial Full backup image regardless of whether you select Full, Incremental or Differential as the scheme.

That Full backup image is then used as the base for the Incremental and Differential schemes, where for Incremental changes are consolidated within the same Full image file so keeping a single files for that version chain.  For Differential changes, these are stored within a separate file and will always be based on the initial Full image and all changes identified since it was created.

These backup image files are stored in .TIB or .TIBX image files which are unique to Acronis and can only be opened by the same.

The only other Acronis option is the Synchronisation feature but this requires a second computer that is also running Acronis Sync - it cannot sync to a locally attached external disk drive!

There are third-party Sync applications that could do what you are asking for, including the Robocopy tool integrated with Windows 10 or 11.
