Backup strategy advice for dual backups

Thread needs solution

Dear all, I am wondering if this is a viable backup strategy that would work with Acronis True Image 2020 for mac;

- I am doing backup of a network AFP drive, and I have segmented the backups in parts (eg. "personal", "professional", "others";

- I use and external HDD (eg. drive named "backup") and I run the 3 backup jobs to backup the three cloud folders to it;

- question is: can I have a separate second HDD, with the same name, and use it to run the exact same jobs? The idea is to run the 3 backup jobs twice, one on each drive; would this confuse the backup mechanism in any way or risk losing data? Or is it better to duplicate the backup jobs?

- general idea is to keep the HDD in two different places for safety.

Thank you.

Bruno,

Caveat: I am a Windows user with no direct experience of using ATI on any Mac.

I would not recommend trying to fool ATI by using a second HDD with the same name as the application does not work on just the disk name but on the unique identifier of the disk partitions.

It will be better to create duplicate tasks / jobs for each destination backup drive.

I am basing my reply on KB 62741 which was written purely for Windows users but with the thought in mind that ATI for Mac always makes incremental backups, so you would in effect be mixing different incremental chains by trying to use different drives with the same task.
