backups 2020

Thread needs solution

I am using Acronis True Image 2020 and have come across a glitch.

Using the Differential backup system, I am trying an initial back up a large folder (7.39 GB) to an external disc drive (2Tb) which has plenty of room left.

Each time I try to do the backup Acronis gets so far and then stops, stating ‘1m remaining’ or ‘2m remaining’.

It then stays like this indefinitely.

Hello Ahmad

Thanks for contacting!

Please check the following solutions:

  1. Check Storage Space: Although you mentioned that the external drive has plenty of room left, it's a good practice to double-check the available storage space. Make sure that there is sufficient space for both the initial backup and any incremental or differential backups.

  2. Restart Acronis and Reattempt Backup: Sometimes, software glitches can be resolved simply by restarting the application and attempting the backup process again. Close Acronis True Image completely, then reopen it and try to initiate the backup process once more.

  3. Check External Drive Connection: Ensure that the external drive is properly connected and recognized by your computer. Try using a different USB port or cable to rule out any potential hardware issues.

  4. Disable Antivirus or Firewall: Sometimes, antivirus software or firewalls can interfere with backup processes. Temporarily disable these security measures and attempt the backup again to see if it completes successfully.

  5. Check for Error Messages: Look for any error messages or logs provided by Acronis during the backup process. These messages might give you more insight into what's causing the backup to stall.

  6. Try a Different Backup Type: Instead of using the Differential backup type, try using the Incremental backup type to see if the issue persists. This can help narrow down whether the problem is specific to the Differential method.

  7. Run a Check Disk (CHKDSK): Perform a disk scan and repair on both your source drive (the one containing the data you want to back up) and the destination external drive. This can help identify and fix any potential file system or disk issues.

Feel free to comment if you have any questions.

Thanks in advance!
