BSOD when backing up to USB
Hi,
I have an issue when backing up a laptop os drive to a usb drive. I am using TI 2020. I have configured the backup to write to a 128GB usb 3.0 drive which is using a usb 2.0 port. When I click on back up now it immediately blue screens with "UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP". This has happened both times I have attempted it so I have yet to have a successsful run. I have carrried out the same operation on my main pc which worked fine first time. Anyone had any similar issue? I am going to do some checking of the error via google whist awaiting any replies.
Thanks.

HI Steve,
Thanks for the welcome and the update.
Build version is #25700 and backup is running from ATI2020 install on the laptop - I have a 3 device license.
Install was performed using an administrator account. Just windows defender and firewall running.

Eddie, thanks for the further information.
I would recommend downloading / installing a copy of the free Who Crashed utility and using this to see what further information it shows for the BSOD.
Is your laptop being overclocked at all?

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the further update. As suggested I installed "Who Crashed" and got the following output:
On Thu 28/01/2021 13:46:20 your computer crashed or a problem was reported
crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP
This was probably caused by the following module: file_protector.sys (file_protector+0x4455A)
Bugcheck code: 0x7F (0x8, 0xFFFFF8021A288E70, 0xFFFFBD8E827A5000, 0xFFFFF80217A7700F)
Error: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\file_protector.sys
product: Acronis File Protector
company: Acronis International GmbH
description: Acronis File Protector
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the Intel CPU generated a trap and the kernel failed to catch this trap.Double Fault, indicates that an exception occurs during a call to the handler for a prior exception. Most often this is caused by a software problem (kernel stack overflow) but this can also be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: file_protector.sys (Acronis File Protector, Acronis International GmbH).
Google query: file_protector.sys Acronis International GmbH UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
From the link I found a previous issue that you had responded to:
https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-true-image-2018-forum/acronis-f…
I decided to disable Active Protection and the backup started without crashing with bsod. I stopped it immediately and re-enabled Active Protection and restarted the backup and it continued to completion. I will keep a check on the daily backups to ensure no repetition but for now it appears resolved.
Thanks, Eddie
