Can Acronis Create an Image File Like Ghost?

Thread solved

Hello Please can anyone help. Over 10 years ago I used a product called Ghost, some of you may remember it. I need to create an image (clone) of my laptop hard drive whose size is about 235 GB. So I have a 4TB external hard drive but it has existing data. I want to use my 4TB as a destination drive. The instructions for Acronis seem to indicate that the entire destination drive will be overwritten - this does not make sense. Can't I clone my laptop hard drive to an Image file whose size is about 235GB and save that file on my destination 4TB external hard drive without wiping the entire contents of the destination drive?

Michael, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please see the link in my signature explaining the Difference between Backup and Clone as this is at the heart of your question.

A Clone will destroy all other data on the target drive, a Backup will not!
