Clone WIN7 XP VM HDD in order to transfer all to WIN10/VisualBox

Thread needs solution

If possible wanting to clone my WIN7 XP VM HDD including VM operating system (XP Pro), all my other legacy apps and files then install to WIN10 VisualBox VM HDD.

This would circumvent the need to reinstall the XP Pro OS, all apps plus transfer files etc, thus saving time and errors.

Can this be done?

Peter, welcome to these public User Forums.

I have no direct experience in using VisualBox for virtual machines - I have always used the free VMware Player software for this.

With VMware, I recently came across a number of older VM's on a disk drive from a dead PC that I had forgotten about, which included a mix of XP, Vista and Win 2000 machines.  I was able to copy the VM folders to my main laptop and simply launch the .vmx configuration file to get these to open in my current VMware Player 15 application with minimal configuration changes.

I would recommend checking whether you can do the same with your VisualBox application?
