Cloning 2 seperate 500GB HDD to 1TB HDD

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to clone one 500GB HDD to my 1TB HDD and once that finishes, clone the next 500GB HDD to the same 1TB HDD but after cloning the first one, my PC sees it as the 500GB HDD and not a 1TB HDD anymore.

Some more information would be helpful; what product, version and build are you using, what is the OS version and build (unfortunately you are a victim of the forum bug that inexplicably places some new thread in Off Topic section of the Forum.

I suspect that the problem is that as a result of the initial clone you have a 500gig partition on a 1TB HDD, which is showing as 500gig in Explorer. That is OK as far as it goes. You cannot clone a second drive to that drive; what you need to do is create a backup of the second drive and recover it to the 1TB drive. It may be easier to use a disk management application such as Disk Director 12.5 or MiniTool Partition Wizard Free (download from here); before doing the partition copy I would first make a backup just in case something goes wrong.

Hope this helps

Darrius, there is a fundamental issue here!  You cannot clone 2 different drives to the same target drive without the second clone wiping out the results of the first one!

Cloning is a 1:1 relationship, it copies the whole of the source drive to the whole of the target drive and wipes everything that is on that target drive as the initial part of the clone process.

If you need to combine these two drives on to a third single drive, then you need to use Backup & Restore instead, and partition the target drive as if it is equal to the two source drives.

See the link in my signature for a document describing the difference between using Backup and Cloning.
