Cloning HDD with Acronis true image 2020 (Linux OS )

Thread needs solution

After I follow the prompts to clone a hdd manually and all is straight forward until i get this warning

You are about to change parameters of some LINUX partition.

If this is not a bootable partition, click OK to continue.

If this is a bootable partition, you will need to perform some actions to make it bootable after the partitioning operations. Please be sure you have your Linux boot diskette before clicking the OK button.

In order to make this partition bootable again after partitioning operations are complete, you should:

- Insert the Linux boot diskette into the floppy drive;
- Boot your computer from the Linux boot diskette and login as root;
- If you use ASPLoader as the Linux loader, type /sbin/aspldr
- If you use LILO as the Linux loader, type /sbin/lilo
- If you use a different Linux loader, please follow the instructions as described in the man pages of your loader.
- Reboot your computer and you will be able to boot your Linux again.

Question: Is Acronis Refering to the destination HDD or the source ?

Malcolm, sorry but more questions than answers initially.

What exactly are you trying to clone here?
Is this a Windows computer drive, a Linux computer drive, a hybrid of both in a dual-boot scenario?

How are you trying to perform the clone operation?
Is this from within Windows using the ATI 2020 clone feature?
Are you booting from Acronis Rescue Media?

Once we understand the above, it should be easier to try to help you with the actual task.

Hi Steve, from true image 2020 I created a on usb a rescue media builder as I need to clone a linux HD.

So after booting from the usb I went through to the cloning option and choosing the source HD (linux) and then a blank HD as the destination and after pressing next it brought up the message above

Kind regards
Malcolm

Note the usb was created using the linux option and I had to use the utilities to get the new HD reconised

Kind regards
Malcolm

Malcolm, thank you for the further information.

Some further questions:

Are you booting from your Acronis USB Rescue Media on the Linux PC or have you moved the Linux HDD to a different computer?

I would highly recommend making a full Disk & Partitions backup of your Linux HDD before continuing with making a cloned copy of the same.

What file system is being used for your Linux HDD?
