Copy/move files to External Drive

Thread needs solution

I have Hundreds of Photo folders and thousands of files to move to a external HD as a safety storage drive.  I do not want to "image" them... just back them up so I can plug the drive in and use them if I need to.  Ideally I need to be able to select various Master Folders to put selected subject matter on various external drives.

How do I do that?

Marvin, I would suggest using a Synchronisation application to do the copy of your photos to an external drive.  There is no feature within ATI which will do this for you unless you have a second PC with the external drive connected to allow the use of the ATI Sync feature.

Personally, I have used various different methods of doing similar actions.

  • SyncFolders - which is a free sync applications.
  • RoboCopy - which is integrated into Windows but is a command line tool.
  • Karen's Replicator - which is another free sync application

I have been using the last of the above, Karen's Replicator, to copy my VMware Virtual Machines folders to my external drive in preference to doing an Acronis Backup of the same as it is copying upto 100GB of files on most times I run it.
