.data recover

Thread solved

I have continuous backup which yields a number of .data files. How do I know what is in them and how do I recover that information?

Keith, sorry but what is the context for these .data files?

What Acronis product / version are you using?

What type of backup are you running here, i.e. is this an Acronis Non Stop Backup?

Where are you seeing these .data files?

I am using True Image 2020 v4. The question is to do with continuous non stop backup. File list attached.

My question is how do I access a datafile if I need to recover information?

My recollection is that in ATI application, you can select the backup task, then select recovery. I also have a dim recollection, that in Explorer you can rick click on the file, and one of the options that appears is True Image and selecting that allows you to determine which version of the file you want: other than for the current day, there will only be one version for each day due to the way consolidation works when using such a backup.

Keith, for Non Stop Backups the answer is that you do not touch the .data files in the Time Explorer Storage folders - these are not intended to be accessed by users.

As Ian suggested, the answer is to use the Recovery tab for the NSB task.

Unfortunately I am not able to advise you further on NSB as it is an option that I have never needed to use so have no direct experience to offer here.

See KB 63004: Acronis True Image: files are missing when selecting what to recover from a Nonstop backup - which offers some information on recovery options for NSB.

Thanks Ian

Your suggestion worked. I right clicked and set Trueimage as the appropriate app. Trueimage opened and recommended the last .data file but I could have chosen any.

Many thanks again

Glad it worked - that was my recollection (from testing some years back).
