Thread needs solution

dear acronis board, i'm ready to buy an xps dell xps i3 256gb ssd 2tb hdd storage windows 10 pro comp., from dell.

on dell boards when i said i ordered acronis true image for my first full system image and or clone of new xps i3 256gb ssd, 2tb hdd 3.5 storage win 10 pro (not yet puchased, sitting in cart)

the reply was: ''Re: xps i3
Cloning images of drives is not supported by Dell Or Microsoft.
If you have any issues with your cloning you will have to take that up with Acronis.
The non support of 3rd party software like GHOST or Acronis True Image goes back to WINDOWS NT.
Norton Symantec thru in the towel with windows 8 in 2012.

Sysprep images are not clones.
Cloning or duplicating an installation instead of making a sysprep image can lead to duplicate SIDs. It can also lead to a problem called disk signature collision.
You may run into following disk collision error messages in Windows 10.
The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible
The disk is offline because it has a signature collision
This disk is offline because it has a signature collision with another disk that is online.''-

any input would be appreciated regarding clones, full system images etc.,

i'm not a newbie by far, i'm getting all sorts of different answerss re: win 10 backup software..

ty all,

Thom, welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but not sure who is giving you these answers or why?

There are some considerations for performing cloning but this is a regular activity for lots of users with both Dell and Microsoft devices as well as computers from all other manufacturers.

Please take a read of some of the links in my signature, in particular, the one describing the difference between using Backups and using Cloning.

Drive signature collisions are only likely to happen if a PC is booted when both the source and cloned drives are connected, which is not recommended to do.
