Differential/Incremental backups from Rescue Media

Thread needs solution

When I use the rescue media I always run a full backup. But I'm wondering how it works to do incremental or differential backups, especially if the time between running backups is long. Does anyone do such backups from the rescue media?

Rarely, I tend to do full as well.  If it's been a long time and a lot of data has changed, your incremental or differential will likely be fairly large too.  But, generally I stick to offline fulls for "best results" so as not to have to deal with chains that could break down the road.

It can work though. You just have to pick an existing file that already exists, use the same name scheme and make sure it has the incremental option on the backup tab.  I may have to test this, just to make sure of the process, can't say I've done this for several years.

Ditto to Rob, I have tended to only do full backups from the rescue media as they are one-off actions rather than a regular activity.

I have just recently setup a number of offline backups with recovery media as incremental scheme.  My plan is to run an update backup on these on a monthly basis.  These backups are for machines that generally do not see huge increases in data change thus I believe are good candidates for this approach.

Unfortunately I have not run the slated incremental backups on these yet but I feel confident they will work just fine.  I do think you need to be on top of a solid schedule for keeping up with this though.
