Disk Clone on Spare Laptop - Crucial BX500 with Acronis for Crucial
Hi all,
I had a successful disk clone through a spare laptop and thought i'll share a little about my experience from it.
Couple of issues i had:
- Had to use a spare laptop to clone the harddrive as old laptop was unworkable
- "new-external-usb31-ssd-not-recognised" warning when i initiate the Acronis True Image program
I had a really old laptop of 10years with a Toshiba 1TB hard drive which was working really slowly - practically unworkable with slow bootup and constantly crashing with basic programs like chrome and edge. The disk rate was also running at 100%, so i figured it may be the hard drive failing, I bought a 2TB Crucial BX500 SSD and cloned it using a spare laptop I had.
** Solution - "new-external-usb31-ssd-not-recognised" **
- plugging in and out the usb hardrive didn't work to help it recognize.
- uninstalling the program and reinstalling it again worked.
- Target Acronis harddrive was plugged in during install (not sure if that helps but it worked)
** Solution - Disk Cloning on Spare Laptop
- I couldn't find much information online on cloning disks using a spare laptop so thought i'll share
- Once you get the Acronis True Image for Crucial working, you can work through the prompts and you'll have a page where the program is asking if you are cloning for this machine or for a different machine.
- Click cloning for different machine and it'll clone as a bootable drive
Time spent to clone:
- 9hours - keep in mind that this is a 10year old 1TB HDD that is running at 100% disk rate
- might be lesser for you if the file size is smaller or smaller capacity
Hope this information helps everyone from some stress and grief.
Feel free to pop any questions if you need.
Ivan.
