Disk cloning failed. See log for details. Crucial 500gb P5, HP Pavilion pc, Win10, 1TB
The subject pc is in a network environment, so it does not have much local data or applications, around 200GB or so. The hard drive has a recovery partition of 11.4gb.
I've tried the automatic settings for cloning using the Acronis True Image software provided thru Crucial. I've also tried the manual settings thinking that the proportional sizing option might be trying to force the recovery partition to a size that is too small. Both result in the error message in the subject line, but not until dedicating nearly an hour of waiting until the cloning is basically finished.
I don't know how to interpret the log files well enough to gain any useful knowledge on what to do next. The amount necessary headroom is not in question. I get the feeling that HP may have locked the recovery partition, or the fact that one of the partitions is FAT32 where the rest are NTFS might have something to do with it. Any suggestions would be helpful. I've attached one of the log files.

I haven't worked with partitions since Windows 98 and it was a risky operation on a working system. At this point I'll try anything to get a working clone, but I'm not excited about the possibility of breaking something that currently works.
I'm curious why True Image is trying to resize the 4th (probably full) partition when there is plenty of free space that could be repurposed from C:. I had a look at the manual cloning options in True Image and attempted to change partition sizes, but it would only let me change the size of the 2nd partition (C:), leaving space unallocated. There were no options to expand the 4th partition manually to allow the entire contents of the source partition to fit.

Tom, this is one of the issues that can arise when using cloning and one reason why personally I very rarely use it!
You should always make a full disk backup of the source disk drive before attempting any significant operations and especially when cloning.
It is far safer to use Backup & Recovery instead of using Cloning, and the recovery process handles partition resizing better plus allows the original drive to be removed and set aside well away from any accidental changes or overwriting etc.

I had the same issue arise but found a easy solution due to the recovery partition caused by HP .
Clone the SSD first with Acronis even though the error comes up & then Close Acronis & use Mini tool partition wizard free .
Then delete the new recovery partition & the I think 535 mb partition in SSD mx 500 . Apply Changes then resize partition C drive smaller by about 15Gb then your unallocated should be enough to compensate for the extra room for recovery partition.
Now select the 535mb on existing hdrive & use copy to unallocated on SSD , apply change, then do The same for the recovery partition on existing hdrive & copy recovery partition to the unallocated on SSD , apply change done . If you have any left unallocated then just format for storage.
Now just swap over to the SSD boom working 👍
