Disk Cloning - periodic updates V2020

Thread needs solution

Hello all.

I've not ventured into the disk cloning magic until now but having replaced my old PC I'm looking into cloning my new PCs c:/ to a same sized D:/  on the same PC.

My question is, once completed can the cloned disk be updated periodically - say every month, my reasoning is that should c:/ become corrupted/infected I need to be able to boot a clean version hence the delayed update. Would this "update" be "incremental" or "Full replacement"

Or perhaps I use "backup" and use the "rescue disk" to re-populate the C:/?

Any advise or experiences of both would be great.

Thanks Graham

Graham, please see the link in my signature to a document that describes the difference between Backup & Cloning for a good overview of both of these.

A clone is a 1:1 direct copy of the source disk to a target disk, and can cause problems when the target disk is physically installed in the same PC as Acronis may want to make that target drive the OS boot drive.

There are no options provided to update a clone image so you would have to repeat the same operation every time you wanted to bring it up to date.

A clone also will completely overwrite (wipe) the target disk each time it is run, so you can only store one such clone whereas with a Backup task, depending on the size of used data on the source disk, you may be able to store multiple backups on the same destination storage disk drive.
