Encryption and De-encryption in Windows 10 64 Bit

Thread needs solution

I see an Encrypt link on TI 2021. My Windows 10 64 bit PC is already encrypted using Bitlocker.

If I create a backup without specifiying encryption in TI at the time, is the backed up data encrypted on an external drive because it originally was encrypted by Windows, or is it unencrypted on the external drive because I did not tell TI to encrypt the back up on this occasion?

If the data becomes unencrypted on the external drive because I did not specify encryption, then instead of going through the long Windows 10 de-encryption process, why not do a data backup, delete data files from the PC, turn off encryption on the PC, restore the data, and save all the time Windows would have taken to de-encrypt the data?

Context: I do custom data-only backups to a local external hard drive, with no usage of Acronis cloud services.

Tommy, when you are running ATI from within Windows then essentially your BitLocker encryption is 'unlocked' and as far as the backup operation is concerned, all data on the unlocked drive is not encrypted!  Hence the backup file will also be of non encrypted data unless you use the option to enable encryption when the task is first created.  Once the task has run and created any backup files, then the encryption option is no longer available / cannot be changed.

See KB 62662: Acronis True Image and BitLocker FAQ - for more information.
