Enhancements to make ATI 2020 easier to use

Thread needs solution

From the post so far there are several aspect where enhancements are needed to improve the user experience:

  1. The separation of clean-up from backup process for cloud backups - this would allow other tasks to be performed during the prolonged cleanup process.
  2. The separation of Validation and backup so that a backup task can be run while another backup is being validated.

Other enhancements would be:

  1. Replicate to NAS, USB drive rather than limiting it to Cloud
  2. In addition to the preferred WIFI network the ability to specify LAN that must be present for backup task to run.

The above list is drawn form suggestions by various users both in this Forum and in the 2020 Beta Forum.

Please fee free to make other suggestions which I will incorporate into this post.

PS I am sure that I will have forgotten some of the excellent suggestions that have been made by other users, unfortunately my memory is not what it used to be.

+1 from me Ian on these points.

Perhaps allowing the user to decide how many concurrent tasks are allowed to run via the ATI Settings page instead of having a strict default limit of only 1 active task.  Many users have very powerful systems that are capable of multi-tasking & multi-threading tasks.
The key issue that may prevent this is simply that ATI 2020 (as with earlier versions) is still a 32-bit application and needs to be brought into the 21st century as a 64-bit one!

Other enhancements:

Step fully away from Linux when needing to restart the computer to complete a task such as cloning or recovery - this should now be a Windows PE OS environment (from the system Windows Recovery environment) and if that WinRE is not viable, then the user should be told to create rescue media to continue!

The same should equally apply to ASRM for the Standalone Recovery Environment.

One feature of Macrium Reflect that I really like is the option they provide under 'Other tasks' to create and add a WinPE boot option to the Windows BCD, so that the user can get into a recovery environment without messing with boot configurations, Linux, Secure Boot etc.

I have used EasyBCD to create my own boot options for .wim files (UEFI) or .iso files (Legacy).

While running concurrent tasks may be nice in theory, the reality may or may not be so good depending on the resources used, especially if accessing the same disk, USB, network pipe, etc. In some cases there may be time savings, but I'd expect in many cases that would not be the case.

Another enhancement that has been requested:
Allow backup tasks to be examined and modified even when the source or destination devices cannot be accessed.  This is particularly problematic for NAS and FTP backups.

a big PLUS ONE to this!

My NAS is only on a couple hours a day and I hate having to remember to check the backup tasks during that window.

Dear MVPs,

here the list of the existing / new change requests created based on the users' feedback

TI-179264  Replace ASRM with WinPE boot option in BCD
TI-170048 [Win] Selected networks - add Ethernet networks
TI-170272 Allow changing the plan settings when the target location is not available
TI-170223 Support replication to local destinations
TI-170832 Resume replication

Issues with slow cleanup and validation reported as bugs for developers to investigate.

Cannot share any ETA at the moment, the team is mainly working on the technology and stability improvements.

Great!  I hope they get added to the product ... but I really hope for the technology and stability improvements.

Looking forward to all of the improvements, enhancements, bug fixes and stability features!  The more, the merrier (and the faster, the better).
