Event observer VSS ID d'événement : 12292

Thread solved

Hello,

I changed my old PC to a new different PC and reinstalled Acronis True image 2020 with version 38600 and i have Windows 10 pro 64 bits.

After each full system backup, errors 12292 are logged in the Windows 10 Event Viewer application log of errors:

Source: VSS Event ID: 12292 Level: Error Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Error creating shadow copy provider COM class with CLSID {e5b5oe88 ………..), access denied.

Attached is a screenshot of the log.

Is this type of error serious in the event of a restore?

Are the backups that have been created and validated and that are on the Acronis True Image dashboard reliable or are they corrupted?

What exactly should be done to remove these errors?

I thank you in advance.

Norbert, does your backup task complete successfully, i.e. does it show this in the main GUI and in the logs?  If so, then the VSS error may come from something else present on your system and shouldn't have any impact on the validity of the backup files.

I would recommend downloading / running the Acronis VSS Doctor tool to see what that shows for any VSS issues that may be latent on your system.

Note: all Acronis software should be installed using an Administrator level account and run from the same to ensure that all required permissions, access etc are given to the application.

Hello Mr Steve Smith,

thank you for your quick response.

Attached is a screenshot of the Acronis GUI and log. It seems that these backups are valid and could be used in the event of a restore? Also attached is the windows event observation log which shows the details of the VSS error.

It must be said that I have just changed my old Dell PC for a new PC from another brand, and that the Windows system transfer was carried out by cloning on the new SSD. What do you think?

Excuse me for the english, i'm french

I thank you in advance.

Norbert, your screen images do not show any error and I am not an expert in reading Windows system event logs.

Please download & run the Acronis VSS Doctor tool and see if this identifies any errors in that area of the system - there is a link in my signature to the tool.

Hello Mr Steve Smith,

thank you for your quick response.

I also think that since Acronis has correctly validated the backups, it must have used another copy image function, and that these backups can be used in the event of a windows system restore.

In this case, I can continue to make backups with Acronis and ignore the errors mentioned in the Windows event viewer.

I will try using the VSS doctor tool to see if it identifies and fixes the error.

Thank you very much for your support and kindness in helping me find a solution.

I'll be sure to let you know if I manage to find a definitive solution.

Cordial greetings
