fails to find nvme ssd

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I use a Thinkpad T570 with nvme ssd (Samsung 970pro 1TB or Samsung 980pro 2TB). Unfortunately, ATI2020 linux boot disk is unable to find this device.

Looking into the console /var/log/messages shows a mesage

nvme nvme0: failed to set APST feature (-19)

This points to a kernel problem that can be solved by appending

 nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=0

to the kernel parameters during boot.

I had the same problem with an ubunto ditribution using a 5.11 kernel-version and was able to fix it with this parameter. Unfortunately I do not know where to place this parameter to activate it during boot.

Can anybody help me ?

Maybe a way to reload the nvme/nvme_core module with this parameter applied ? I suspect the ssd will be working with this parameter.

Thank you for your help.

Best regsards,

Michael

Michael, welcome to these public User Forums.

There are a number of known limitations of using the Linux based Acronis bootable rescue media, including the issue you are seeing.  Basically, the linux distro used has no support for either RAID or BitLocker options.

The way around this is to create the Windows PE version of the rescue media using the 'Simple' option which if created on the same Thinkpad will use files from the Windows Recovery Environment for both the PE and device drivers needed to find the NVMe drive.

See KB 63226: Acronis True Image 2020: how to create bootable media and KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

Enchantech,

thank you for the hint to the additional parameters. Unfortunately, I am missing the info how to pass the parameter to the kernel during boot.

Acronis loader does not seem to allow specifying kernel options prior to booting.

Do you have a hint where to type the parameter I mentioned above ?

Thank yo for your help!

Michael, there is an option during the boot media creation where you can input startup parameters that I have used previously to forcepae for an older system with a non-pae CPU.
