False positive

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Active Protection is blocking our tool called PrivaZer on PCs of our users, either :

  • by preventing it to work as normal and making it hang
  • OR by flagging it as a ransomware.

We have already contacted in July you and you did nothing.

PrivaZer is here since 2012 and is digitally signed.

Do you think this situation is normal ?

Do you think it is normal for us to spend hours to answer user questions about this false positive and to investigate on user PCs to finally discover that they have Acronis True Image with Active protection and that it is blocking PrivaZer when running ?

This is a user forum, and is not a means of obtaining technical support from Acronis.

I did a quick search for "PrivaZer" and the sort of things it does would be picked up by Acronis as suspicious. This is based on behavior of the application and does not depend on the status of the executable' digital certificate.

If your organization is happy for this application to be running on user systems, it is a relatively easy to add the executables to the white list.

It is not clear how many users your organization has, but ATI 2020 is only designed for home users and small businesses. For larger organizations Acronis Cyber Protect 15 is a more appropriate solution. This allows group policies to be set which would simplifying the process of white listing the application.

PrivaZer is a cleanup tool that may be widely used across the user community so the action needed here is to follow the steps published in KB 60193: Acronis True Image 2018, 2019 and 2020: Active Protection blocks legitimate applications to whitelist the main executable and prevent it being blocked based on behaviour patterns etc.
