File size of backup on HD is a lot bigger then shown in Acronis GUI?!

Thread needs solution

My second HD in my windows PC sometimes get's fully used by Acronis backups. No singel free byte left!

When I open the GUI of Acronis and use Cleanup versions I see a total backup size listed as 160 GB, but when I go to the Windows explorer I see a multiple of that size on my HD used by acronis tibx files, namely 583 GB !!???

How is that possible and how do I get rid of that discrepancy?

Hello Jan!

Welcome to the forum!

To address this issue and free up space on your second HD, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Open Acronis True Image and use the "Cleanup versions" feature to remove unnecessary or outdated backup versions. This will help reduce the overall backup size in the Acronis GUI. https://kb.acronis.com/content/61844

  2. Check the backup settings to ensure that the retention policy is configured appropriately. You can adjust the retention settings to retain only a specific number of versions or set a limit on the backup chain size.

  3. If you have multiple backup tasks running on the same drive, consider consolidating them into a single task to better manage storage usage.

  4. Check your deduplication settings in Acronis True Image to optimize the storage space used by backups.

  5. Reinstall the agent and check if the issue persists.

Feel free to update the thread.

Thanks in advance!
