Files and Folders backup of NAS share - size estimate is off

Thread needs solution

When defining a Files and Folders backup of a NAS share, the estimated size is reported as "0" if

  1. Initially all files and folders are selected by clicking the "Name" check box (which propagates the selection check mark to all file names)
  2. then one or more files or folders are unselected.

There is no problem estimating size if files and folders are individually added rather than removing files or folders from the "all" list.  And even though the size estimation reported above is way off, the backup seems to work correctly.

There is a similar problem in ATI 2019 except that the incorrect estimated size is non-zero, and the backup creates a file with no data.  ATI 2020 is definitely an improvement even if the size is reported incorrectly.

Patrick,

Not doing file/folder backups like you demonstrate here I had not noticed this issue.  It suggest that TI can count up or add but cannot count down or subtract.  Possible oversight maybe?

Patrick,

I didn't succeed in reproducing the issue on my PC (1. file-level backup to share 2. select multiple folders with files 3. deselect some  - size estimation was corrected each time I added or removed another item). Do you still observe this behavior? with different shares?
