Full backup without compression file size much smaler

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have run under Windows 10 (latest version) a full backup of my whole PC with the following settings:

Compression degree = without

Exclusion criteria = everything taken out and also the "exclude files that meet the following criteria"

Data selected according to Acronis = 60.3 GB (According to Explorer, the hard disk occupies 68.4 GB ??)

The result after the backup job and successful validation is:

File size of the backup = 27.2 GB

Recoverable according to Acronis = 67.4 GB

How can that be? With these settings (without compression) shouldn’t be the file size 1 to 1 the same as the original data?

Greetings

Please download the MVP Log Viewer tool (link in my signature below) and use this to review the log file for your backup operation. This should provide more information on what is actually happening in part, though not in sufficient detail.

Check the ti_demon log first but then browse to  C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs\backup_worker and look for any files created at the time that your backup was performed. Ideally, please zip the file(s) to preserve the original file name(s) if uploading to the forum to have us help in reading the contents.

Hi Steve Smith,

sorry it took a little longer... I attached the logfile as a zip file.

The ti_demon log is:

We have multiple laptops in the family and the file size discrepancies are everywhere.

I ran "chkdsk c: / f / r" and "sfc / scannow" everywhere without any problems.

On all notebooks is a SSD with Windows 10 Pro 64bit installed with all current updates and the installation is about 4 months old. The system was not adopted by any PC, i.e. it should be a relatively "clean" installation. Acronis is also the latest version (build 22510) and of course nothing is overclocked.

Here is another example:

Data selected according to Acronis = 141,2 GB (According to Explorer 140,0 GB)

The result after the backup job and successful validation is:

File size of the backup = 95,7 GB

Recoverable according to Acronis = 137,3 GB

Here is a second example:

Data selected according to Acronis = 85,3 GB (According to Explorer 84,6 GB)

The result after the backup job and successful validation is:

File size of the backup = 38,4 GB

Recoverable according to Acronis = 91,8 GB

And here is the third and last example:

Data selected according to Acronis = 648,2 GB (According to Explorer 647 GB)

The result after the backup job and successful validation is:

File size of the backup = 489 GB

Recoverable according to Acronis = 627,6 GB

Seems to be something going wrong?

Greetings

Marc, thanks for the backup_worker log file.

This shows the following statistics for that particular backup task run.

There does seem to be some compression going on if I am reading some of the metadata information in the log correctly, though the actual figures do not match with the above.

01/06/2020 02:19:09   type=metainfo;
name=SLICE_USER_SIZE; value=665053261882; id=1;  (619.38GB)

01/06/2020 02:19:09   type=metainfo;
name=SLICE_COMP_SIZE; value=584861114368; id=1;  (544.69GB)

The log confirms that no exclusions have been applied for the backup task and doesn't show any errors being reported.

If you are still concerned with results you are seeing, then I can only recommend that you open a support case direct with Acronis and ask them to investigate this.
