HELP !! Acronis Bootable Media Does Not Detect HDD

Thread needs solution

Helkp please !!I am proper struggling to get a new ASUS X1500 Laptop to boot from my bootable media ! I have had to put my acronis 2020 software ont the machine just to get an image but when I boot it up from my bootable media it fails to find the hard drive ? I am pretty sure it is because the media needs a driver but how do I inject the driver (had to do this on the windows 10 x 64bit version 22H2 to get the laptop to instal) onto the pen drive ?  I read somewhere, it is because my bootable media is Linux based if this makes a difference

Sorry to be a pain but I have 32 school laptops to prepare and I need to get my Acronis bootable media to see the hard drives on them..

Dave, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you have installed Acronis on your new laptop then you should be able to use the integrated bootable rescue media builder using the 'Simple' option to create Windows PE media using the files from the Windows Recovery Environment which will also include most device drivers.

There are a couple of scenarios where the Win PE 'Simple' media still won't detect the internal drives in these laptops!

  1. If BitLocker in enabled as seems to be more the case these days for new laptops being shipped with Windows 11.

  2. If the internal drive (commonly PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD drives) are using Intel VMD drivers which need to be injected into the media separately.

You should be able to check for the above scenarios from within Windows by checking the BitLocker control panel and looking in Device Manager for the drivers being used.

Hello Steve,

Really appreciate your help. So looking at what you have put, it is not the bitlocker but I do remember that I had to inject a driver when I built the Operating system USB drive. I havd to browse to it after adding it to the drive and then it would work, but from what I understand from your reply, this is not possible using Acronis ?? Now hopefully I am wrong and you can tell me that there is away to inject it into my USB Acronis Rescue Media ???

Dave, you can definitely inject additional device drivers into your USB rescue media and do this using the main Acronis Rescue Media Builder tool by selecting the Advanced option and WinPE media using your Windows Recovery Environment for the PE files after which you will be presented with a panel where you can choose a folder containing additional drivers.

Note: please do not be tempted to just select the whole C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder - instead copy the extra drivers that you want to inject into a separate folder for just those files.  Most drivers will also have been found from the Recovery Environment.  See my earlier screen image for how to identify the driver files that may be needed.

The MVP Assistant - New 2.0 with Rescue Media Builder (New Version 2.6.2) can also be used to inject additional drivers to create a more comprehensive rescue media tool.
