How to edit backup job settings or destination when original network destination became unavailable?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I normally backup to a network drive. Network drive became unavailable. So I would like either to change destination or go to backup options and make more changes there (for instance disable schedule etc.).

But whatever I click - it always displays network connection error window (with options to test connection or change credentials).

How to edit a job in such situations?

Thanks!

Sorry but this is a known limitation with all current versions of Acronis True Image!

Please submit Feedback directly to Acronis (use the tool provided in the GUI Help section) and ask for your vote to be added to the Acronis internal feature request: TI-170272 Allow changing the plan settings when the target location is not available.

bat0nas,

While dealing with this issue via support I would suggest that you try the Add existing backup option to bring your old network target location back into the GUI backup task list.  The link below is not directly related to your issue but the illustrations it provides will help you add your task back into the GUI.

Link

In the link you will see two screenshots.  The first will show you the location of the "Add existing backup" option.  The second shows the result of selecting that option.  I have attached a screenshot below showing the result of the Add existing backup option and then entering a network path into the search path field at the top of the navigation pane.

You may be prompted for credentials when doing this if so enter them.  If your network path uses a drive letter you may have to use something like the following to get to the location.

\\192.168.X.XXX\Z:

Dear Steve,

Thanks for your message. I submitted feedback as suggested with the reference to TI-170272 feature request.

I must admit this is extremely weird limitation.

I'm not sure I understood the idea behind your suggestion.

In my case - my old network location became completely unavailable (not temporarily). So I don't have any other link or old backup to add.

So in that case I want to edit my old jobs by changing destination and leaving the rest of the backup options intact.

I have a feeling Acronis wants us to delete such jobs and create new ones. Which is very very inconvenient.

Enchantech, I don't think this would help the OP as his network drive is unavailable, so noplace to get the existing backup from. Or am I misinterpreting something you said.

bat0nas, it should be possible to disable the backup task via the Scheduler Manager so it won't run and fail constantly. If this is what you'd like to do, the easiest way is to use the MVP Assistant to track down the task, get the Scheduler Manager and then you can disable the task.If you wish to do so, I can provide more detailed steps.

BrunoC,

My method is essentially a backdoor way to get a search/browse path field displayed so that any path including network can be discovered/found.  Often times with network drives which I assume in this case means a mapped drive, the drive letter still exists but Windows and thus the application has lost the path due to disconnection.  You can reestablish connection with this method.

Enchantech, I understand now what you mean. I was assuming from the information in the OP that the network drive was unavailable on a more permanent status (e.g. failed device) as opposed to an access problem.

BrunoC,

Looks like you were right.  The OP states that the network location became completely unavailable not just disconnected.
