How to open a backup from a long-scrapped machine

Thread needs solution

I need to recover some files from a backup of a machine I had way back in 2007. I made the backup in Acronis 10, but Acronis 2020 (on Win 10, on a newer machine) refuses to read any of the 3 DVDs from the volume set. How do I get at this backup set?

Nathan, welcome to these public User Forums.

Unfortunately it is entirely possible for DVD media to go bad over a long period such as the 12 years since this backup set was created in 2007.

There are also significant differences in the ATI application that have taken place in that same period which may render the DVD data unreadable to the latest ATI version application.

The KB document for backup archive compatibility (link in my signature) shows that ATI 2020 should be capable of reading data from as far back as ATI Home 11, which would suggest that it might be able to read data from the previous 10 version.

What does Windows Explorer show as the contents of the 3 DVD's here?  Does this show any .tib files?

Nathan, a quick update after doing a little bit of testing.

I booted an old Win98 PC from a TI 10 boot CD and made a backup to a DVD then brought that DVD to my laptop running ATI 2020 and it was able to open the .tib archive file with no issue, which confirms that if your DVD's do contain valid .tib file data, it should be possible to open these in ATI 2020 provided the files are not corrupted etc.
