how to rotate backup disk - new disk - same backup settings

Thread needs solution

How can I replace a backup disk drive with a new physical disk and keep the same backup settings? My backup settings have a lot of rules about which files to include.
The big idea is to disconnect the currently backed up data for safe storage.
I want to archive what is backed up and keep using the same backups with a new empty hard drive.
Probably already discussed or in the manual. I can't find the answer.

Chris, if you remove the current backup drive and connect a new one, then all you need to do is to reselect the Destination as the new disk for the backup task.  This will cause the first backup to be a new Full backup.

The only downside to doing the above is that you may get error messages about missing files that are stored on the old drive.  The way around this issue would be to make a copy of the backups on the old drive, then use the clean up versions tool to remove them from the drive so that all the metadata and database information for those files is removed. The copied files can be put back on the drive before putting it in storage offline.
