How to Upgrade from ATI 2016 to ATI 2020 and preserve backup settings

Thread needs solution

The KB article on upgrading ATI for older versions specifies to uninstall the old version (2016 in my case), and then perform a clean install of ATI 2020.

What is unclear is how do you uninstall the 2016 version, while preserving the existing backup settings. I have a large system with 10 defined backups, many of which are "frozen" and represent an inactive backup use to preserve some specific data content at an important date in time.

My system currently has 11 disks, 4 of which are "active" (and all SSDs), and 7 which are primarily backup targets, and I would prefer avoid having to manually re-add the existing backup sets back into the ATI backup catalog.

When you uninstall ATI 2016 is there an option to keep the existing backup definitions?  Where is this information kept? Would it be a good idea to manually save these old backup definitions to a "save" folder or something similar?

Is there a method to explicitly "export" a backup definition to a file ... and then import this backup definition into the new ATI 2020?

I understand there is a new "tibx" format that is used for new backups created under ATI 2020.  Is there an easy method to "import" the settings from an older version backup to a new backup definition, and then configure the new ATI 2020 features that are now available in in the 2020 version?

Worst case, I was anticipating using the ATI backup "options" function and taking screen shots of each section and tab for each of the 10 backup definitions ... than then possibly needing to re-enter all the setting information.

What is the easiest way to preserve all the backup jobs from ATI 2016 and migrate them to ATI 2020?

Thank you for your help.

Dave, starting in ATI 2018 there is an option to Export/Import backup settings, but that is not there in ATI 2016. A lot of the settings are in the script files in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts. But since it is not recommended to update directly from ATI 2016 to ATI 2020, I would not trust using the scripts. Plus, they don't have all the information.

In other words, I don't see a simple way to do this. On the other hand, if you start by adding the backup itself ("Add existing backup") and then fixing the settings that might make it a bit easier.

From ATI 20187 onwards there is an option to save settings which save backup settings which can be recovered later.

I suspect what you would need to do is to copy the backup scripts to another location before uninstalling ATI 2016 then copying them back once you have installed ATI 2020. This is not something I have done so I suggest you wait for advice from those who have experience in doing that task. I am assuming that there is nothing incompatible between the scripts for ATI 2016 and ATI 2020. There is also a remote possibility that they are located in different directories but I suspect that is unlikely.

My recollection is that you have to stop all Acronis services while you do the coping to and from Acronis directory.
