I'm not understanding Microsoft Office 365 cleanup rules

Thread needs solution

I'm stumped by the choices I've been given for configuring the cleaning schedule of MS Office 365 on ATI 2020 Cloud.  I have no choice but to Schedule a "Once a day" backup which makes sense but I don't get the Monthly: 6 months, Weekly: 4 Weeks, Daily: 7 Days HOW LONG TO KEEP selection that I can't change anymore even though I have not "applied" anything.

Thanks, Ed

Hello Ed,

sorry for the delayed response! Have you tried reloading the page? I'd such a glitch once and reloading the webpage did help. Normally, when you configure the protection plan and click on How long to keep, the following menu should be shown

+ with the changed settings

This cleanup scheme allows you to keep a certain number of daily, weekly and monthly backups. Indicate how long you need to keep daily, weekly and monthly backups. All backups made within one day are considered to be the "daily" ones and will be all deleted when the date expires. The same rule applies to “weekly” and "monthly" backups. If I recall correctly, Monthly and Weekly backups will be created on the day selected for starting the backup task for first time. Daily backup sets will be created on all other days. Let’s say Sunday is the day for starting the backup. Monthly backup will be created on Sunday when we run the task for the first time. Weekly backup will be created on every other Sunday for the current/same month. Daily backup will be created on days other than Sunday. Monthly backup will be again created on the first Sunday of the next month and every other Sunday will again give us weekly backups.

You can also select another scheme, where the condition will be applied to all backups in the chain

Thanks Ekaterina, reloading the page did allow me to make cleanup rules.  Thank you too for explaining the cleanup scheme so clearly, I understand it now.  Ed

Hurray! Thank you for the feedback\update!

Glitches can happen pretty often. Don't be scared, everything is going to be solved eventually. Make sure that you are going to have a backup for everything and then you know that nothing can disappear. I was struggling with installing the Office suite and a friend of mine has told me about https://w-w-office.com/setup where I was able to learn about this. It's amazing how many things are available for us to create and understand. That's why I am grateful for being able to live in the era of technology.

So what are the rules? List?

Hello David,

the following options are available

So you can either clean up backup versions older than [defined period] or limit the maximum number of backup versions stored. When the number of versions exceeds the specified value, the oldest backup version will be automatically deleted.
