Impressed!
I am very impressed! Have you noticed that there seem to be no bigger problems with ATI 2020?

Uwe Dembski, thanks for thumbs up!
G. Uphoff, it is true that validation takes longer in the new version. It is a side effect of a more detailed validation process that was implemented in the .tibx format. If you need to delete an incremental backup, you still can do it with "Clean up version" - it is just the ability to delete just the selected backup version is now restricted to backups listed under the "Recent" section - those that do not have any newer full or differential backups. It is not a bug, but architectural limitation of the .tibx format implementation in Acronis True Image 2020.

Hi Slava,
I found your comment above interesting and was hoping you might elaborate. As I understand it, one can now only clean up the most recent version of a backup when using TIBX. So if, for instance, I have a full and three incremental backups, I cannot clean up just the last two. I can cleanup just the last one, or the entire chain.
If this is accurate, and if it is an architectural limitation of the TIBX format, does this mean that the new format relies on all versions in a chain being accessible? If, for example, I were to manually delete the final two incremental backups in my scenario above, would I still be able to recover the first incremental backup? With TIB this is possible, but is it still possible with TIBX?
Thanks for helping us to understand the new benefits and limitations of the updated format.
Best,
Philip.

Hi Slava,
Wie funktioniert das erstellen und validieren eines .tibx Backup-Archivs im Vergleich zu .tib?
https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/cannot-validate-image-creation…
Ist es unbedingt notwendig alle .tibx Backupketten zu validieren, oder wird das noch geändert, das nur die neueste Backupkette validiert wird, wie früher bei den .tib Backupketten?

How does creating and validating a .tibx backup archive compare to .tib?

Is it absolutely necessary to validate all .tibx backup chains, or will this be changed by validating only the latest backup chain, as formerly used with .tib backup chains?

The limitation to manual cleanup makes backup management more complex. I like to delete incremental backup after 6 months but retain the full backups, which is no longer possible. Last time I looked doing so is not possible with automatic cleanup settings.

Ian, that is correct. If you do a manual cleanup with an incremental backup, the entire chains is the only option - you can no longer delete just the older .tibs and keep the full, or any incrementals that came before them.
For differentials, you can do a manual cleanup and it works as intended (or as you would expect coming from earlier versions of True Image).
The problem though, is that when you do a good cleanup in True Image, at least with differentials, and even if you validate and it shows it is good, your will get a warning with the rescue media telling you the backup chain is corrupted! This behavior actually was there in 2019 too :(
