Incremental backups not being made. Only one file keeps getting overwritten.
I'm running True Image 2020 on Windows 10 pro 64bit. Been using Acronis for years.
I have one backup that takes disk images every day and another that takes them weekly. Both sets of options are similar (incremental with full ever n versions and no more than 3 chains). On another machine I'm doing the exact same sets of backup, but don't have this issue.
The daily actually has files that are named Daily CDE_full...tib and Daily CDE_inc...tib as expected.
The weekly only has one file named Weekly CDE.tibx and every time the backup runs, it simply replaces that one file.
I've deleted the weekly backup and started from scratch but keep getting the same results. How can this happen? I also don't know why the two different backup are using different extensions ( .tib vs .tibx). Note on the machine that is not having the issue, the file extension is a .tib .

ATI 2020 consolidates all disk incremental files into the same file as the full backup for .tibx files so you are seeing expected behaviour.
See the following KB documents published by Acronis with regards to .tibx files.

I just installed Acronis 2021.... So if that one file gets corrupted you lose ALL of the backups?

No, not true unless you have elected to use incrementals forever which would only ever create a single file.
If you use the default settings which create 5 incrementals then a new full backup, then each such backup chain (full + 5 inc) is in a separate file.
The same was true for older versions using incremental files except that an individual incremental _inc_b?_s?_v1.tib file could get corrupted and cause the loss of all subsequent files in the same chain.
Personally, I have found my .TIBX backups to be more secure than the older .TIB ones and for some backups I have increased the number of incrementals because they are all consolidated within the full .tibx file. I would still never use the 'Incrementals forever' option for backups!
