Leaving Acronis for Macrium

Thread needs solution

Recently, I've made the decision to soon abandon Acronis for Macrium and thought I'd post here so that Bagaudin can respond/take the feedback for what its worth.

I have been a regular Acronis user for a long, long time. My configuration is Windows 7 and ATI Home 11. I do nightly image full AND weekly incremental backups of my data partition and keep copies of them locally and on my NAS. (Yes, it's overkill and its what I do.) Occasionally, I move historical backup copies offsite.

From time to time I also create system images. I run a multi-boot system with three (3) copies of Windows 7 -- production, backup production, and sandbox. (BTW, Notice that having myriads of backups of my data partition and keeping copies of air-gapped system images *IS* protection against ransom. I don't know why Acronis thinks it needs to write a single line of code for this. You restore a clean system image and restore your data partition and you're good to go.)

My backup world changed when I bought a Windows 10 laptop. I wanted to be able to download and mount versions of my backup.tib files on laptop, take them on the road, etc.

Juan, welcome to these public User Forums.

If you have been still running ATI 11.0 then you have certainly got maximum value from your Acronis product given that version was released in 2008 and it is now 2020!

Your backup strategy and protection methods suggest that you are in the minority of customers with a good understanding of how to protect your data and therefore may not need the extra protection that Acronis have tried to provide via their Active Protection anti-ransomware feature, but this is not true for other Acronis customers (as shown by various recent posts from users who have lost all their data to this scourge!).

ATI 2020 does not currently have the option to mount .tibx disk image files, which has already attracted a lot of criticism from users.  We hope that Acronis will bring back this option.
In the interim, it is still possible to get ATI 2020 to make disk backups as .tib files, as per all older versions, which in turn are able to be mounted.

See forum topic: How to create a Disk backup as .tib (not .tibx) which will create a new backup task using the older .tib format in the Windows ATI 2020 GUI.
