Linux Workstation Backups

Thread needs solution

Acronis Backup and Restore 11.5 allows for booting from an .iso USB drive and if the file system is ext4, will do a backup that is non-sector based and compresses nicely.  Add this to the 2020.iso and add btrfs and xfs file systems without sector-based. Hate to see a 1tb .tib/tibx for a 50GB data on a 1tb drive.

Also, B&R11.5 allowed mounting .tib's to do selective recoveries. Need to make 2020 read legacy .tib's.

Only reason I went to TI2020 is for m.2 support.  B&R11.5 didn't have it.

Unfortunately you chose a product that is not really suited to your needs. Acronis Cyber Backup (aka Acronis Backup 12.5) has a Linux version. It is the latest incarnation of the product you previously used. It is subscription based but as far as I can work out continues to work after the subscription expires. All you lose it free updates- not a big loss as updates are few and far between as far as I can work out.

Anthony, ATI 2020 is a Windows application first & foremost so any capability regarding Linux file systems is an added extra.

ATI 2020 does now handle Linux EXT4 partitions without resorting to using sector-by-sector backup mode but has a clear statement for what file systems it supports in the user guide:

Supported file systems

  • NTFS
  • Ext2/Ext3/Ext4
  • ReiserFS(3) *
  • Linux SWAP *
  • HFS+*/HFSX*
  • FAT16/32/exFAT * **

* File systems are supported only for disk or partition backup/recovery operations.

** File systems are supported only for disk or partition recovery operations (without resizing).

If a file system is not supported or is corrupted, Acronis True Image 2020 can copy data using a sector-by-sector approach.

The above applies equally to rescue media as to the installed application.  If you need support for any unlisted Linux file systems, then you should consider using Clonezilla instead.

This was supposed to go under "Wish List" but my mouse has a mind of it's own. When I bought ATI2020 it was only because of the M.2 support that 11.5 didn't support. B&R 11.5 handled mounting .tib's which ATI2020 doesn't. I have a lot of Linux workstations and just wanted a client backup. The bootable .iso does that and would be nice if the other file systems were added.
