'Location is not available' error after cloning and replacing crucial SSD data disk

Thread needs solution

Hello Acronis Community,

I bought a crucial SSD MX500 1To to replace my old one of 500 GB of my Asus laptop. This disk is only for data and some software, the window system will keep remeining on my C: disk.

After cloning properly with Acronis True Image for Crucial and replacing the old one, I got many 'Location is not available' errors in Explorer, like that one:

My desktop shortcut icons are also blank and some of my software can't find the file directory folder to run.
I'd like to add that my document folder and some software are installed on this hard drive.

I don't understand because I thought the cloning process would exactly copy the disk with all the path, etc.

Do you have an idea to fix that problem to be able to replace my disk without having to reinstall everything ? For now I just went back to my old hard drive and everything work properly.

Thanks a lot for your help,

welcome to these public User Forums.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to all OEM versions of ATI supplied with hardware purchases.

Just looking at the screen image in your post above, I suspect that you have moved the locations for your Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music etc at some point, i.e. to another drive or partition.

It is likely that these all exist on the cloned drive if that is where you moved them to but that the drive letter is no longer the same, hence they are not found.

If you have the original drive installed where all is working correctly, then check the Properties for the working Location for these options, then double-check again when the cloned drive is installed.

Hello Steve,

Thank you a lot for your answer, and indeed I change the default documents folder path as with softwares.

So you guess it’s only because of the letter avec the new cloned disk that doesn’t match the previous one? It's surprising that it cloned everything expet the letter...
