MBR Error 1 Press any key to boot from floppy

Thread needs solution

Hi,

After a big problem on my computer, I first reinstalled Windows 10 64 bits, then Acronis True Image 2020 and I tried to restore my backup made before the problem

I choose to restore disc C: (I have a D : for data it is OK)
Everything seemed to work fine … until I tried to reboot and get the error message about MBR

What can I do ? Is it not obvious for this software to write the MBR when you restore a complete disc to C: ?

Thanks in advance for your help

Jean-Claude, welcome to these public User Forums.

From your description you are attempting to restore your C: partition from within Windows 10 which then will do a restart into a temporary Linux based OS environment.

This is not recommended as can cause issues due to modifying the Windows BCD that can result in an non-booting system if the changes are not reversed.

Please create the Acronis Rescue Media using the tool provided in the ATI 2020 GUI for the Simple method.

Next, run the msinfo32 command in Windows and identify the BIOS mode used by Windows 10 on your computer?  This should show as either UEFI or as Legacy.

See KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

Boot the rescue media in the correct mode to match how Windows 10 boots on your computer, then restore the C: partition from the rescue environment.

Sounds like you are unable to boot your PC because of this issue.  If yes I recommend that you boot the PC into the bios setup, navigate to the boot section, and make sure that the correct boot device is selected in the Boot Order section.
