moving programs to new pc?

Thread needs solution

Hello -- I'm a newbie here and hoping you can help.  I have true image 2020.   I now have a Lenovo pc with windows 8.1.  I'm getting a new pc that will Not be lenovo, will have windows 11, and SSD.   I don't want to mess up anything on the new pc.  I know how to move my data files.  But I have a Lot of applications (especially photography programs and several pdf programs etc ) and I want to be able to move the applications, and their settings, that are on my old pc to the new pc.  (I know I may need to pay another license fee for some, and that's ok.)  Some of them are old and no longer available so I can't just download a new one from the developer.  I've looked at my pc and all the applications seem to have files in several places and I can't always tell by the file names what application the files go with.

So my question is:  How do I do a backup of my old pc, and how do I do a restore to my new pc, so that I can move the applications and their settings, but not move all the old Lenovo and Microsoft and other files from the old pc that aren't needed on the new pc?

Someone said I needed migration software to move the applications -- would that be better than using backup/restore from true image?

Any help is much appreciated.

L R, sorry but what you are asking is not possible with Acronis using Backup & Recovery.

Please see KB 19296: Acronis products cannot be used to transfer applications to different system or upgrade OS

You would either need to reinstall your applications on the new PC, or find alternative applications (if available).

The other option, if your new PC is capable, would be to convert your old Lenovo PC into a Virtual Machine hosted by the new PC, which would allow you to continue to run the obsolete applications within that VM.  You may still face licensing or activation issues if your programs rely on a specific hardware signature for the same.
