Mozilla thunderbird backup with Acronics True Image 2020

Thread needs solution

Hi. What is the best way to back Mozilla Thunderbird with Acronics True Image 2020? I know you can run backups but I am concerned about eating disk space. My mail box is currently about 5.9 GB Thanks

Relay Man, welcome to these public User Forums.

Where is your Thunderbird profile folder located on your system?  Is this using the default storage location or have you moved the profile folder to a different location?

If you are using the default location, then doing a Full disk backup of your Windows OS drive will automatically include your Thunderbird profile folder and contents.

If you have moved the profile folder location, then it will depend on where the new location is?

Personally, I have my Thunderbird profile folder on another drive away from C: then back the new location up to my Synology NAS drive on a daily schedule.

See webpage: Moving your profile folder - which describes how to do this.

Note: You can make a separate Files & Folders backup using ATI of your Thunderbird profile folder.

Like Steve, I also keep my Thunderbird profile off the C: drive. If you are concerned about the size of the profile, be sure to periodically empty the trash and compact the folders.

I also have another useful trick. Every couple years I create a new "archive" profile and completely copy the current profile into it. Then I can do serious pruning in the main profile. If I need to access an old message that I may have deleted, I can open an archive profile to get it.

Just curious, but what is your email provider?  If using IMAP, all of the data is on the server too, so may not be as critical to backup mail on the local machine.  I used to be a strictly POP user because I wanted it all local, but then I had an epiphany, and asked myself, why? and couldn't come up with a good answer.

That said, if you do want it local (to have an additional backup or history), yes, backups can grow if it is a single file that is constantly changing since that change will get backed up every time your backup runs.
