MVP WinPE Builder tool and vanishing backups

Thread solved

I've been attempting to backup my boot drive and other recovery partitions to a separate partition I created for just data. I'm using only one physical drive, no other external devices. The process succeeds and even validates, but after booting back into Windows 10, the backup I just created is gone. I tried multiple times, and even renamed the file extension to see if some mechanism was deleting my backup based on the filetype. I'm using ATI2020. Anyone have a solution for this? Thanks in advance.

Chris, from your description above this sounds very much like you are booting into Acronis Rescue Media on your PC when the PC is in a hybrid sleep state, i.e. as enabled when Windows Fast Start is in use.

In that hybrid sleep state, any changes made to the file system by creating new files are lost when the PC is resumed and booted back into Windows again, but if you check you will probably find that the space taken by the backup file is missing from the data partition!

The way around this is to force a full shutdown of Windows by pressing / holding a Shift key when clicking on Shutdown, or else temporarily disabling Windows Fast Start.  Otherwise, use an external backup drive.

Thanks Steve. That's good to know. After these few attempts unaware of the conditions in fast start mode, I used an external drive and it saved fine.
