NAS to NAS Backup File Busy?
I'm attempting for the first time to backup one Network Attached Storage (NAS) to another NAS with Acronis. The backup generally appears to work well until it stops backup up and with a message stating it "Failed to Backup" a "folder is in use by another application". This seems to happen only for larger size video-type files, .mp3 or .avi. I've confirmed the files are not in use and also checked the attributes of the folder and its files to make sure they are accessible. Usiging Windows File Manager, I can copy the files from NAS to NAS just fine its only Acronis that provides the error message.
This is WIndows 10.
Any thoughts on a setting or change I can make to allow a NAS to NAS backup to complete?
Thank you

Its possible. THere are so many video files its not something I could do for every file to check. I do know I could copy the files without any issues so that suggest to me is something weird going on with Acronis.

Perhaps this might help Backing up an NAS

Thanks. That could very well be it. They state there can only be short file names, but shorter file names for the 1000s of files is not going to happen. So the solution is Acronis wont be able to backup the NAS to NAS.

Robin, if your NAS source data is mainly large video files, then using Acronis to backup that data is not the best use simply because such files are already in a highly compressed state and Acronis will try to apply further compression, plus you will be creating an Acronis .tibx archive file on the second NAS which then requires Acronis to be able to access its contents.
If your intention is to have copies of the data from your first NAS available on the second NAS, then you might be better using a file / folder synchronisation program, or even using the native Windows Robocopy program to mirror the data between the two NAS systems.
Another option would be to use any native tools available on the NAS to do such backups. My own Synology NAS offers its own Hyper Backup application for making such backups in conjunction with its Hyper Backup Vault for NAS to NAS backups. Both of these are offered in the Synology Package Centre.

The point being made in the kb is that backups from NAS to NAS will only work reliably when such backups are a Files/Folders method. Disk/Partition method backups do not work.
As Steve says a file/folder synchronization application is better suited to your use case because of the files being media files.

I was backing up files with Acronis. In some cases a single file and it failed with a single file claiming the file, an .mp4, was being used. Copying the same file and using Hyper Backup succeeded with the identical .mp4 file.
That said, File synchronization is just fine. that's all I need for NAS to NAS backup. Files wont change, just adding or deleting files in a video library
Can you suggest a WIndows software for NAS to NAS synchronization?
Im also trying Synology backup to a USB drive on the NAS USB port (Acronis failed here also due to claim of file being used) but Hyper Backup worked well and fast with only 50% disk utilization. I need to get a bigger USB drive to test the entire backup.

Robin,
If you are syncing files on Synology devices your should look Here
Keeping Windows out of the picture would be your best solution here in my opinion.
