New PC

Thread needs solution

I want to move the external Acronis backup drive to a new PC.  Is there a way to import the backups So I can restore some of the files that were backed up from the old PC to the new PC?

It is possible to "restore" data files to the new PC. You need to aware that even if you have the same user name the file permissions will cause issues, therefore you should deselect "recover file with their original security settings" under the Advance Tab of the File Recovery Options. This is not available until you click on recovery. Also do NOT restore them to the "original" location if it is in your user files, as it could cause havoc.

Another possibility, if the new and old computer use the same operating system (for example Windows 10 Pro x64), is to recover the entire backup to the new PC. You must activate Windows on the new machine before doing so. This avoids licencing issues with software, however, to be on the safe side, uninstall software that has licence restrictions from the old PC first. This should work without any major issues if you are using Windows 10; if the old PC has Windows 7.1, then there could be issues. It may be worthwhile upgrading it to Windows 10 - you can still upgrade for zero cost. I did it recently for my mother-in-law.
