No Data to Recover Yet
I have done multiple backups and every time there is nothing in the Recovery Tab on the client app.
During the backup the Recovery tab says an operation in progress.
ATI support had me delete and recreate the backup multiple times in multiple ways yet nothing fixed it. I fully deleted the backup and reformatted the external backup drive, re-added the bootable recovery partition and tried again from a fresh new install of ATI 2020 and same issue.
When I try and re-add the backup and choose the tib file it fails
This is the last reply from ATI support which is taking forever (they respond once/day AT BEST):
Thank you for your email and the reports.
I would like to inform you that, I checked and in the system report there is an error in the NTFS volume. Please fix the drive error with the size 1.9tb
Error is in sector -3 --DC 446G 446G 216G NTFS 07 NTFS, HPFS Web........ --e--VYou may run chkdsk and then try fixing the error.
You may refer the following steps to run check disk on your computer under command prompt menu:
Check for errors the disk that you are attempting to back up or clone:
D:
->Start->Run->Type "cmd", right click "Run as an administrator"For example, if you want to check the 'D' drive(target drive), then you will enter the following command -
chkdsk D: /R
Once the operating the command above is done, please proceed with the command below for the same drive.
chkdsk D: /F
You may be asked if you want to Dismount the volume. Click No or N. You will then be asked if want chkdsk to run when system restarts next. Click Yes or Y.
Note: The system may become unbootable if the disk has hardware problems. Hence before running check disk operation, please make sure that you have a system restore point and a entire computer backup of your system.
After that please run the backup and then check if you can recover.
Please feel free to get back to us should you have any further questions. I look forward to your response.
I dont think its letting me add to thread any more or change from solved.
Maybe this will work:
The solution was to fully uninstall/reinstall Acronis using the Acronis utility.
Then I had to run sfc /scannow.
Then I had to reinstall Acronis True Image and add an existing backup.
I re-ran the Acronis System Report and it found no errors and backups are working as expected again.
Thanks for all the help!

I re-ran backup and same issues. How would a bad block make "no data to recover yet" from a successful backup. I can see and load the backup from bootable media... It just doesnt make sense to me.
On the original system report I sent there was one error listed: File System Error 0x70018: MFT bitmap is corrupted.
To be clear I fixed is and re-ran the backup and have the same issue.
This was the latest response from support. I fixed the only error I could find in their report and it still doesn't work as expected:
Also, validation checks the quality of data that is being backed up so if there is any bad block then there are chances that it will get blocked. Also, as mentioned NTFS is an hidden partition so it might not detect in chkdsk.
So, please got to disk management and then on NTFS volume assign a drive letter and then run the chkdsk on that drive letter. If you open the system report sent to us, then in that open - disk and then you will see the error message.
Attached is the disk report with the error.

Layne, there looks to be two different issues at work in this topic.
The disk error being flagged in the disks.txt report for your C: partition using the label 'Web'.
Partition 1-3: file system FS: NTFS File System Error 0x70018: MFT bitmap is corrupted.
For this you should run CHKDSK C: /F - your log for running CHKDSK shows no /F flag being used. If using /F doesn't help fix this issue, then try again using /R but be prepared for this to take a long time to complete when used for large partition sizes as there is a lot of sectors to read through and check.
C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Volume label is Web.WARNING! /F parameter not specified.
Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.
Running CHKDSK in read-only mode does not apply any fixes for any issues.
The complete syntax for Check Disk is as follows:
CHKDSK [volume[[path]filename]] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/X] [/I] [/C] [/L[:size]]
The options and switches for Check Disk are used as follows:
volume Sets the volume to work with
path/filename Specifies files to check for fragmentation (FAT16 and FAT32 only)
/F Fixes errors on the disk
/V Displays the full path and name of every file on the disk (FAT16 and FAT32); displays cleanup messages if any (NTFS)
/R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information (implies /F)
/X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary (implies /F)
/I Performs a minimum check of index entries (NTFS only)
/C Skips checking of cycles within the folder structure (NTFS only)
/L:size Sets the log file size (NTFS only)
/B Re-evaluates bad clusters on the volume (NTFS only; implies /R)
The second issue is the Recovery panel for this backup task not showing any information from the backup file that has been created and validated.
This second issue can be resolved by using the 'Add existing backup' option found by clicking on the caret to the right of the normal 'Add backup' option, then select your latest backup file for this task and click OK. This will cause the Recovery panel to be populated correctly.

Disks currently have no errors - the read only re-run from today was created to prove it there are no current errors on my drives before I ran the next test - that is all.
I deleted the backup and recreated it from scratch and the issue persists.
When I add an existing backup, I still get the same error - failed to add.
So to recap.
I followed so many seemingly random and unrelated steps I'll try to relay them here to summarize.
Opened ticket with support with thorough explanation after some back and forth and deleting and re-adding backups and reformatting my external backup SSD.
Then submitted acronis report. They replied I had a bad block. I checked and there were no bad blocks just a bitmap issue. I repaired all Windows drive issues using chkdisk.
I reformatted the external backup SSD, re-added the acronis recovery and did a full backup - again. The issue persists. The Recovery tab shows no data to recover yet.
The interesting thing is that during the backups the Recovery tab shows An operation is in progress.
Also when I boot to ATI recovery disk on the external backup SSD I can see all the data and choose partitions or files to recover.
All the images in my original post are still reflective of what's still happening now after weeks of troubleshooting.
Any further insight would be greatly appreciated.

Layne, how old is the disks.txt report showing the MFT bitmap error? Have you created a new System Report zip file and checked that disk report since running the CHKDSK C: action? If not, please do so to see if the MFT error is still being reported or not?
There should have been no need to reformat the external backup drive if no errors were being reported for it.
Do you have any other available drives that you could use to store a backup to prove that the problem still is there regardless of the destination drive?
I have not encountered any other users in the forums reporting the same issue with the Recovery panel content where doing the 'Add existing backup' has not resolved the issue, so am struggling to give further suggestions to you.
You mentioned about doing a clean install of ATI 2020 - did this include using the Acronis Cleanup tool to completely remove all traces of all installed Acronis programs?

The full uninstall and reinstall did it.
I was able to add existing backup and everything showed up.
I'll run an incremental now just to see if its really working.

Ran an incremental backup and it failed. Submitted screenshot and system report to Acronis support.
I think the topic for this thread is solved yet I'll update if needed.
Thanks.

Layne, glad you are back to a working solution and hope that it long stays that way for you!
