Problem cloning Windows 10 with dual boot (separate SSDs) setup

Thread needs solution

Hi guys, hope you'll be able to help.

I bought bigger SSD for my system drive and wanted to clone my system drive onto it.

I have dual boot setup - Windows 10 + Windows 7 (on 2 separate SSDs).

Tried Acronis. Everything was copied (cloned successfully), but when I disconnect smaller system SSD it doesn't boot at all (blue win10 screen with system boot error) and eventually keeps kicking me into the BIOS (FYI BIOS booting order was changed).

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with dual boot, but not 100% sure what.

When new (bigger) SSD is connected on it's own the same as above happens.

When new SSD is connected with Windows 7 SSD - same thing, kicks me to BIOS.

Reconnecting old (smaller) SSD with Win10 on and booting with connected SSD with Win7 (old setup) - everything works (Windows 10 boots normally from old smaller SSD).

Any help would be appreciated.

Summarising - I want to move my Windows 10 (make exact clone of it) on to bigger SSD and have a dual boot option with Win7 running on separate SSD.

If I missed any info please let me know.

Thanks guys!

Immno, welcome to these public User Forums.

Dual boot systems have always been problematic when replacing / changing disk drives as there can be a number of different factors involved depending on how dual-boot is setup!

How are you switching between Windows 10 and 7?

Are you changing between them in the BIOS settings?

Are you using a third-party tool to switch between them?

Are you using the Windows Boot Manager to switch, and if so, from which OS?

Are you able to remove a single SSD from the working environment and still boot Windows on the remaining SSD?  If not, then dual-boot is using a dependency on the removed SSD, i.e. maybe the Windows Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store is on that SSD.

How were you performing Cloning?  Was this from the second Windows OS using Acronis?

What version of Acronis software are you using?

Do both of your Windows OS use the same BIOS boot mode?  Legacy or UEFI?
