Read errors using Samsung Portable SSD T5 drive

Thread needs solution

Read errors on Samsung Portable SSD T5 when trying to recover full image Acronis backup.  No other issues with the SSD drive.  When the backup is created, no errors, no issues.  I had 2 full image backups, both had read errors and Acronis could not use them to recover my PC.

Michael, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please confirm what version of ATI you are using?  Is this ATI 2020 per this forum?

What type of backups are stored on the Samsung Portable SSD drive?  .tib or .tibx?

What version of ATI created those backup files?

How is the drive connected?  USB 2.0 / 3.0
Where is the drive connected?  Rear ports on a desktop / tower PC?
Is the drive powered from the USB port or does it have a separate power supply?
Does the USB port match the standard used by the drive?  USB 3 to USB 3?

How are you performing the recovery?
Are you booting from Acronis Rescue Media?
Which version of the rescue media (WinPE or Linux based)?

Have you tried copying the backup files to a different drive and recovering from that?

The T5 drives use a USB-C 3.0 port.  If you have the drive attached to a case mounted port this may be the issue as these are of marginal quality at best in most cases.  If possible use another port to connect the drive and try again.

If you are using a desktop please try a back I/O panel port.  If you are using a multi port hub please try attaching directly to a port without a hub.

Michael, I am also having this issue. Purchased a new Samsung T7 SSD to store all my Acronis Backups as I am performing entire PC backups. Will need to use for recovery, but on first attempt at recovery I received error 0x4001A.

I realized after trying to run Acronis from a bootable media, that it is not reading anything from this drive. I cannot see my folders or any of the .tibx files I created on the drive with no issues. I moved this file over to another portable HDD I have, and was able to run the recovery with no issues.

This is Acronis 2020, creating full PC backups as .tibx files.

Did you ever find solution to this issue? I just purchased the SSD and may need to look into returning if it will not work for this application...

I have a Samsung T7 external hard drive and I'm experiencing the same problem. The backup completes successfully, but when I try to restore my data, the page is empty with no files or folders.

It seems to be an issue with the compatibility of the backup method used for this disk. The worst part is that it's impossible to extract the data.

I hope a solution will be found with Acronis

Yoann, please confirm that the Samsung T7 is not encrypted or has not had password protection applied. If so, you would need to decrypt the drive or provide the necessary password, which may require some planning when using recovery media. If protection is provided using a Samsung application, that application would need to be loaded in the recovery media. This may not be possible as there are limitations to the ability to add applications, this is so when even using the MVP Assistant - New 2.0 with Rescue Media Builder (New Version 2.6.1).

If the problem is with ATI 2020 there will not, I would think, be a remedy provided by Acronis as ATI 2020 went out of support about August 2020.

Hello Yoann !

I see there was a ticket with our support.

Unfortunately we didn't receive any reply to our latest email and the case was closed by 3-strike.

Could you please tell us the status of the issue? Was the issue resolved?

Thanks.
