"Recover operation failed" on attempts to restore.

Thread needs solution

Acronis 2020, Windows 10, Thinkpad 460s. On attempted restore from boot media, the green progress bar moves all the way to the end, then hangs there for several minutes, then get "recover operation failed". I have set up a 10 GB test partition and put about 200MB of files in it. Then I run full backup of it to an external USB drive, then try to restore back to the same partition using boot media flash drive. I have spent a day working on this -- have tried on two similarly configured PCs, two external USB drives, two copies of boot media, updated Acronis to latest build, always the same result. Will appreciate any help!

Bob, welcome to these public User Forums.

Difficult to say why you are getting the recovery failed error message without any access to the recovery log created while in the rescue media environment?

The first question to ask is what type of rescue media are you using here?

For the ATI 2018 & later version rescue media, there are 3 different versions available:
Simple:  created based on your Windows Recovery Environment for WinPE media.
Advanced: created based on Windows ADK (or AIK for earlier OS versions) - WinPE media.
Advanced: created based on a small Linux distro OS (BusyBox) or created from the .ISO CD image download from your Acronis Account page.

For the Log files, while still in the rescue media application, click on Logs to see the log file, then right-click on the top line of the log to see an option to save this to your USB media.
