Recovery Format/Resize Error

Thread needs solution

Unable to recover drive from backup. Tired recovering with default options as well as sector-by-sector and having the same issue. The backup and destination disks are the exactly the same.

Is there anything else I can try?

I am a little confused; if you are recovering from a backup how can you switch to sector by sector, which suggest you are cloning.

The log file has a "Format/Resize error" near the start, there is also "error 0x29b138d: Input/output error", and "error 0xfff0: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." There are some references to this second error in the Knowledge Base which suggests that there is a problem accessing the target drive (although it could be the other drive in this case.

There is also "Error 0x13c0005: Operation has completed with errors".

Unfortunately these error codes are only understood to Acronis engineers.

How are the drives connected to the computer - I gather they compact flash drives with a SATA interface. Are they connected to SATA ports on the motherboard or via a docking station. Have you tried other ports and replacing the cables, as they could be faulty.

Steve Smith who know a lot more about these things than I do may have additional suggestions.

Ian

EDIT: I have a dim recollection that the resize error can be caused by file system error or physical damage to the drive. Have you checked the drives for errors? What files system do they use?

Justin, I share the concerns / confusion raised by Ian above.

Is this a Windows filesystem on the CFast card or is it using something else such as those used for Raspberry PI devices?   ATI is known to not work well or successfully with SD cards used by Raspberry PI devices due to the mix of filesystems used on those cards.

The I/O error being mentioned is likely to be caused because a card-reader type device is being used to connect the card drive.

You may need to consider using Windows Disk Imager rather than ATI for this type of scenario.
