Reformat external HD and reinstall ATI 2020

Thread solved

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 10.  I use ATI 2020 to create an image of the laptop and save it to a Western Digital external portable My Passport HD.  When creating an image recently, I had a problem and instead of slowing down and researching the problem, I hastily charged ahead and messed things up even more.  I did manage to eventually create an image and save it the the portable HD but I was left with a tangled mess.  I incorrectly deleted some previous images, I renamed the laptop twice and now have images for the same computer with different names, and some images from previous computers on the HD.  I want to clean things up and so here are my questions;

Can I reformat the Passport HD using windows (rather than attempt to restore it to the original factory settings), uninstall and reinstall ATI 2020, and then start fresh?

If so, are there any special procedures, methods or conditions that I should be aware of?

Thank you for your time and help.

Joe, initially see KB 61844: Acronis True Image 2019, 2020 and 2021: How to delete old backups and use this method to remove any files stored on your external HDD for any existing backup tasks shown in the GUI.

Once you have done the above, then you could just delete any further files on the drive via Explorer or else reformat the drive from Explorer.  All you need to do is to right-click on the external drive in Explorer then select the Format option shown in the drop-down menu.
Please ensure that you select the correct drive to format!!!

Note: if reformatting, you may need to reselect the Destination for your backup tasks as the partition identifier for the reformatted drive may have changed.

Thank you Steve.  That sounds simple enough.  I do want to sincerely thank you and all the others that take the time to read and respond to these posts.  It is very helpful and I, for one, truly appreciate the effort you and the others put into helping strangers.
